Mr. Clarke graduated from U.C. Berkeley School of Law (Boalt Hall) in 1997, and has more than 15 years experience practicing law with a broad range of expertise. Mr. Clarke advised clients in patent strategy, prosecution, and patent litigation while at the law firms of Pennie & Edmonds, Flehr Hobach Test et al., and Townsend, Townsend & Crew for the first 8 years of his legal career. Mr. Clarke also has 6 1/2 years experience as in-house counsel, which provides him a unique 'in-house counsel' perspective of the needs and desires of his clients. Mr. Clarke held the Director, IP position at the privately held company NeoGuide Inc. for 2 years, which was developing a robotically controlled colonoscope. Most recently Mr. Clarke held the Director, IP position at publicly held Accuray Inc. for 4 1/2 years, which develops and manufactures robotic stereotactic radiosurgery systems and software used in radiation oncology. At Accuray and NeoGuide, Mr. Clarke directed patent strategy, negotiated and drafted all types of agreements, prepared and prosecuted patent applications, managed all patent and trade secret litigation, negotiated and drafted technology transactions, lead acquisition diligence efforts, and advised executive management on all IP related issues.
Prior to his legal career, Mr. Clarke practiced as an engineer and a quantitative chemist. He recieved his Bachelors of Science in Chemistry from U.C. Berkeley in 1988, and his Masters of Science in Civil Engineering from U.C. Irvine in 1992.
Mr. Clarke enjoys spending time with his lovely spouse and two beautiful children, in addition to practicing his hobbies of road cycling, baking, brewing and cooking.
Mr. Clarke is admitted to practice in California (Bar No. 194,234) and in the United States Patent and Trademark Office (Reg. No. 45,552).
